Jettainer is equipping containers and pallets of American Airlines Cargo with the COREInsight tracking solution based on Bluetooth technology.
At the same time, the airline is extending its cooperation with Jettainer for another five years. This was announced by both companies on 4 June 2019 at the transport logistic / air cargo Europe trade fair in Munich.
Lufthansa Cargo-owned subsidiary Jettainer partnered with CORE Transport Technologies company in October last year to develop containers and pallets enabled with Bluetooth tracking. COREInsight, Core Transport’s tracking solution, allows for live tracking of the ULDs and their contents by purchase order and recording data, including temperature, GPS location, direction and speed of travel, and external and internal temperature.
American Airlines entire ULD fleet currently comprises more than 18,000 units. Jettainer and American Airlines are in the midst of a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proof of concept test and will equip 2,000 of these ULDs with Core-TT BLE tags. With this test American Airlines will be able to identify the benefits of having BLE tagged ULDs.
“ULD management is becoming increasingly digital and customers expect us to provide know-how and resources that fit their digital strategy. BLE technology for ULDs helps to significantly increase process efficiency and facilitates the integration of ground handling into a digital logistics chain. With our partner COREInsight for BLE tracking and our self-developed ULD black box for damage control, we are leading the way in digitization in the ULD business,” says Carsten Hernig, Managing Director of Jettainer GmbH.
“We strongly focus on opportunities created by digitalization in many areas. Jettainer’s BLE equipped ULDs are an important part of this overall strategy and we are glad to have such a strong partner on our side,” says Rick Elieson, President of American Airlines Cargo.
AA Cargo also signed on to Jettainer’s “Cool Management” service last October. The service includes temperature-controlled ULD leasing, management and monitoring during transportation. Jettainer monitors its «Cool Management» program from its Abu Dhabi “Cool Center of Excellence” operation.
