Metal structures are constructions made of metals and various alloys used in various sectors of the economy. They are divided into several types: industrial (for example, building sections, pipeline elements) and modular (various stands, mobile hangars).

In order to deliver metal structures, it is necessary to attract qualified specialists for the detailed preparation and selection of special vehicles. The complexity of the transportation of such cargo lies in the non-standard dimensions, therefore, requires a detailed development of the transportation route and the organization of cargo and unloading operations.

Delivery route development

To develop a route to send metal structures, factors such as: quality and possible differences in the height of the road surface, the dimensions of tunnels, arches and bridges (if they do not allow travel, immediately consider alternative options), the need for low-level escort power lines and weather conditions (a tent platform or additional shelter for cargo may be required).

Choosing a vehicle to deliver metal structures

Delivery of metal structures can be carried out by air, road, rail and water. The choice of vehicle depends on the weight and size of the cargo, climatic conditions, the required speed and distance of delivery.

Air delivery makes it possible to transport large-sized metal structures in a short time. But there are certain restrictions with transportation in those cases when the length of the metal structures is too long for the cargo compartment of the aircraft.

The advantage of direct road delivery is that the cargo does not require additional overloads. If metal structures are light in weight and have a standard shape, then trucks with an open platform and low-frame trawl are suitable for transportation. The weight of the load should be evenly distributed over the entire body area. In general, the dimensions of metal structures should correspond to the dimensions of the platform. On road transport, which carries out transportation, they place the “Oversized cargo” sign.

To send metal structures by rail, most often use platforms with a carrying capacity of 20-60 tons. For fastening the cargo, special frames are used, reliably fixed to the platform. Dimensions of metal structures should not go beyond the size of the rolling stock. If the load is too long, then it is transported in a disassembled state or on the hooks of the platforms.

You can send metal structures by sea in containers that are selected in accordance with the size of the cargo. For such container transportation, metal platforms with end walls are used. This method of transportation is characterized by high load capacity.

Methods of laying and fastening metal structures

One of the most important criteria for securing metal structures in transport is safety and reliability, which determine the layout of such a load. One of the options is laying in sections, which is ideal in cases where the width of the cargo does not go beyond the transport. Another option is a pyramid laying: a special stand is attached, on which metal structures are laid with a pyramid.

All cargo is fixed with special belts with locks. To ensure the most reliable fastening, additional supports and stands can be used. Also, to avoid damage, use the most dense stacking of metal structures and special cushioning materials. The latter help to deliver metalwork holistically and protect the trawls. To load or unload large-sized metal structures, manipulators and cranes are used.

If you need to deliver metal structures from abroad or send metal structures to another country, the specialists of D.S.L. (DSL) company will help you in this task. Call us, write or leave a request on the site – and we will contact you shortly. We look forward to collaborating!
